It seems as though this time of year, although I had been planning for it for what seems like months, has just snuck up on me! With the knitting and the other crafting being done, putting up lights and the tree, I am feeling a little crunched for space in my mind!!
Gifts are being sewn. Mostly toys and clothes, etc. Hats are being knitted, as well as some booties.
All this, and I had forgotten what I had been planning all year!! An advent wreath. I have our beeswax candles all ready, but nothing to put them in. (well, actually we do have one but I had been wanting to make one for the longest time, which is what I am trying to get at here!)
So Zman and I had been trying to cut a nice slice from our Eucalyptus log.... This was really taking a long time! It was too thick for our saws, and it was really getting chilly, so to make up for the lost time of the evening we decided to get a much smaller log and slice and even cut for the bottom. Then using his most awesome drill press, we made way for the candle's places.
This is what we came up with - - - This one is for our dear friend, who seems to like it.
We are making one for ourselves today.
I really like that it keeps its integrity, and obviously looks like a log that should go in the fire. (Eucalyptus though??? I am thinking, No.) One could burn decorations on it, which is something I may do, however my friend wants to burn prayers into the log and I think that would be really nice. I'm not quite as skilled at the arts as she so I may keep the art simple, or simply do nothing to it and leave it the way it is. It's beauty is natural, and keeps the theme of the holiday the way I like it.
